Fornax means 'The Furnace', and Matt McCullar's Fornax Sisters can really turn up the heat.

The MUSICAL Heat!

.

New! Exclusively on this website!

An Original Fornax Story written by the creator of the Fornax Universe, Matt McCullar!
With editorial improvements by Gary Akins.

Fornax: Hauling Ass!

Yep that's the real title, too! Matt wrote this short Fornax story originally for the MFM 2006 Con Book. Then he had it edited by Gary Akins of "Out Takes from a Recording Studio" fame, and asked me if I would host it on my site. Of course, I said yes, Yes, YES!. The result? The new and improved web version! Again, I'd like to thank Matt for considering my site as the home for this story, and as a small token of that thanks, I've created the new header graphic for this page. And (of course) there is a pic that goes with the story too!

Kitta Vulcahno in Concert

Kitta Vulcahno in
Concert

Here's an illustration done by my good friend Mapper showing Kitta Vulcahno in concert. Why the microphone in front of her when she's mute? Sound feedback for the mixers. She not only plays the keyboard instuments on stage, she mixes the sound on the spot. Which is important since most of the music is composed on the spot as well!

Kitta Vulcahno in Concert

Kitta Vulcahno is
Blind Fire

Here's an illustration from an upcoming short story set in the Fornax Universe. Blind and mute Kitta Vulcahno (of 'Touch the Sound, Feel the Music' fame) is now 18 years old and enrolled in one of the most prestigeious music schools in North Shores. How can a ratel from a poor family in Saunim afford this? Because Band Fornax gave her a schoarship. Determined not to disappoint the famous Fornax sisters, Kitta vows to make it though the Jenna Laird School of Music no matter how hard it is. The problem is no one knew how truly difficult it would be.

Burning Up the Stacks

Burning Up the Stacks

Fornax is the most famous rock band in the world and it's made up of five of the worlds most beautiful... Honey Badgers. Uh oh... You don't really mean Honey Badgers as in Ratels? Pound for pound, the meanest, orneriest critters on the planet? Yup. That's them. Hot tempered musicians all. Burning up the speaker stacks with the kind of music that'll make you wanna howl. Yet Yellow, Green, Violet, Blue, and Pink Fornax have a soft side, too, and you can read about them and their manager Trevor Sarnoff in Matt McCullar's Fornax stories available at Fauxpaw Productions.

Fornax is Back 2

New Tour

Fornax is a hit wherever they go but never moreso than when doing the first concert of a new tour. New Music! New outfits! New routines! It's always a sellout - but then all their concerts are.

Feel the Music

Feel the Music

A Fornax concert is known for its avalanche of sound - one song right after another - and the girls put everything they've got into every song they sing or play. Yep. They've got the 'religion', and it shows.

Yellow Fornax

Yellow Fornax

Yellow sings lead for the group and plays lead guitar, 12 string guitar, banjo, mandolin, guitar controller, zither, oboe, and keyboards. She's the group's 'den mother.' She also bakes the best honey pie on this side of the universe. With talent like that, ya gotta love her.

Blue Fornax

Blue Fornax

Blue sings contralto in the group and plays bass guitar, double-speed guitar, solo violin, electric violin, harp, laser harp, keyboards, flute, clarinet, and saxophone. Whew! She also composes some of the best songs heard anywhere today.

Violet Fornax

Violet Fornax

Violet sings alto in the group and plays double bass, rhythm guitar, cello, rutons, rhythm violin, keyboards, trumpet, shakers, trombone, and vocorder. But not all at once! Still, that gives you an idea of what these girls are capable of!

Green Fornax

Green Fornax

Green sings alto in the group and is the energetic percussionist. Besides percussion, she plays fretless bass, harmonizer, keyboards, drum loops, tambouine, cymbals, bongos, tympani, vibraphone, tubular bells, and just about anything else you can hit with a stick.

Pink Fornax

Pink Fornax

Pink Fornax is the quiet one. In fact she can't sing or talk at all! (No voice.) But her music more than makes up for it. A keyboardist beyond compare, she can make a baby grand piano sound as soft as a kitten or as big as the Grand Canyon.

Code Blue

Code Blue

Blue Fornax is in real trouble. Will she live through the night? I wrote a short story called Code Blue about the Paramedic team who treated Blue when she collapsed but you'll have to read Matt McCullar's 'You Don't Believe' to get the whole story.

This is an illustration from my 'Code Blue' short story. Looks like the Paramedics have their hands... or paws, full.

Moody's Guilt

Moody's Guilt

What's going on here? Moody, the Team Fornax sound engineer looks guilty. I wonder why?

Yellow's Mad

Yellow's Mad

This was inspired by Trevor Sarnoff''s first meeting with Yellow Fornax in Matt McCullar's 'Remix 1.1' . It didn't go too well. First contact can be real hard sometimes - especially if it's with a ratel!

Caught in the Storm

Caught in the Storm

As kits, the Fornax sisters were dirt-poor and living in the black sand deserts of Saunim. Not a nice place to be. Little did they know where they would end up when they grew up!

Broken Tapestry

Broken Tapestry

But not all music makes you want to get up and dance. Some of it can break your heart. (This pic was inspired by Gary Akins Fornax story 'Out-takes from a Recording Studio'.)

I didn't mean to...

I didn't mean to...

This was inspired by a scene from Matt McCullas's "You Don't Believe". Sometimes, the ones we love are the ones we hurt the most.

Blue Fornax

Blue Fornax

Blue Fornax, This pic is from my short story 'Midnight Blue' in Fur Visions #24 (availible from Fauxpaw Productions.) It's a little 'fill in' tale based on events from Matt McCullar's 'You Don't Believe.' You can read 'Midnight Blue' here as well as 'Our Child' (also in FirVisions #24), another Fornax short based on events from 'You Don't Believe'.

Honey Pie

Honey Pie

Honey pie is the favorite desert of Honey Badgers, and Yellow Fornax can whip up one of the best. Can you handle it?

The Two Faces of Mira

The Two Faces of Mira

The Fornax stories have loads of other characters too. Mira is just one, and a minor one at that. Even so, she was interesting enough that I did a short story on her called 'The Color of Indigo'. You can read it here.
